OIL FLOW STOP VALVES FOR OIL WATER SEPARATORS

Oil Stop Valve - Design and Operating Conditions

To assure maximum effectiveness of the system, certain precautions and installation procedures should be observed. ENQUIP requires release and documentation of the intended application as well as dimensional data for the installation in order to approve and confirm the valves’ effectiveness in such application. ENQUIP will offer design assistance as necessary to assure the proper operation of the equipment and can assume no liability for the valves’ use in a manner inconsistent with those recommendations.

  1. A water ballast is required for proper operation of the Oil Stop Valve. In order to maintain a floating condition of the check ball at all times, the Oil Stop Valve must be installed with a P-Trap assembly.

DIRECT CONNECTION TO A DRAIN OUTLET IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

The distance from the outlet invert to the ball seat should be three times the ball diameter as a minimum in order to overcome venturii effect forces. ENQUIP, Inc. will determine the proper distance and P-Trap length for your particular application.
  2. Access to the valve is a necessity! Do not install the Oil Stop Valve in a closed vessel or in such a way as to preclude access to the ball and seat. Visual contact of the condition of the ball is recommended. As well, periodic cleaning of the seat is required.
  3. Mounting of the Oil Stop Valve in sizes 2” to 6” can be flanged, buttweld, threaded nipple or coupling. Over 6”, connections are flanged or buttweldonly. Standard weight ANSI steel pipe and fittings are recommended for all installations, although, PVC pipe, standard weight or heavier, can be used for 2”,3”and 4”valves provided the P-Trap is well supported and braced at the bottom of the containment basin. Because of its weight, the Oil Stop Valve cannot be allowed to suspend from unsupported piping.
  4. Because of entry and exit losses across the seat of the valve and the pressure drop through the elbows of the P-Trap assembly, proper calculation of pipe diameter for the required flow rate is necessary. Complete all questions of the application worksheet and review your overall piping configuration before selecting a valve to simply match the size of your existing piping.
